Fall is coming

Two things that tell me fall is just around the corner is the long-tailed weasels turning white and the sandhill cranes gathering on the open harvested fields and summer pastures.  Here a weasel hunts for rodents by sneaking down their holes.  If you look closely, you can still see a little of it summer coloring on its forehead.
Here a pair of sandhill cranes fly over me on Henrys Lake Flat last Friday as I went up to deliver fishing flies to several businesses.  I stopped to observe several hundred of them on the flat.
Wishing you all the best in the wilds wherever you care to visit them.

I don't even have to see the cranes to enjoy them. I love hearing their gobbles!

I'm eager and ready for fall. Sounds like you are too!

Thanks for your note about Marta and Laci's still broken heart.

Hi Bill, When you saw that Weasel, did you sing "Pop Goes the Weasel" ??????? Ha Ha

Fall is coming here also--and our biggest change so far is the colorful dogwoods.

Have a great time working on that Homecoming 'stuff'...... Better you than me!!!! ha ha

Superb photos. The one of THE GRAND on your header is a real stunner. I am envious of your opportunities to be out there with your camera.

I've never seen a weasel with his white winter coat. Great photo capture! You got a great one of the sandhill cranes, too.

Nice job capturing the sandhills in flight. You get to see those big birds up in the northern Rockies, and I get to see them down here in urban Florida -- and I think that says something very good about our natural endowment.

I saw several sandhill cranes in E Oregon a few days ago. Really nice flight photo! I love the weasel shot too, not something I ever see.
