Busy week

What a week.  First we missed school for a day and a half because of electrical problems so we headed for the mountains.  We saw 19 moose.  This is one of four bulls chasing a cow around.

It was Red Ribbon Week (anti-drugs) that the student body officers were in charge of.  Here they are on "Put the Shades and Sweats on Drugs" day.

That was the same day I turned 64 and this is the cake the SBO made for me and we had a great time eating it during the class.  I am the guy on the cake catching a rainbow trout.

Then on Saturday we headed for the mountains and did not see a moose as they were all hiding in the trees with almost a foot of snow on the ground and on the trees.

Winter is here making driving a little wild in Idaho.  Have a great week.

Snow, Snow, Snow

Back out of the mountains for a day.  Roughing it was cold, windy, wet and snowy.  Monday we woke up to eight inches of snow with more falling horizonally but we still had fun.

My camera did not leave the truck, so all the animals we saw escaped without their picture taken.  By Tuesday some of the snow had melted, making for some beautiful contrasting pictures.

The leaves are still on some of the aspen, the brush is thick and the animals are still high.  On Tuesday fog rolled in and we traveled out in the desert where we saw three wolves that were about a half mile away feeding on a dead calf they had killed the night before.  Talked to the rancher and he said they had killed 15 or 20 calves this year.  With the snow he was moving his cattle out of the mountains.

After a day at home, we will be back in the mountains tomorrow and Saturday for two more days in the Wilds of Idaho.  More snow is predicted on Friday and Saturday - more cold and wet feet.

Is Winter Here??

Yesterday the temps were near 80 - summerlike.  It started to rain about 5 this morning with a few snow flakes mixed in.  The high was in the low 40's and in the mountains we got snow.  I pulled the camper up to Island Park to set up a deer hunting camp.
Snow was falling, quaking aspen were quaking with cold and after parking the camper, I went after some firewood for the camp.  Everything was wet, so I got some pitchy standing lodgepole pine wood and stored it under the trailer for next week.  Here are a couple of pictures of the snow storm mixed with fall colors.

As I was coming out of the mountains snow was spitting on me as the sun was setting.  The snow storm reflected the beautiful orange and yellow colors for less than two minutes.  I had to stop and shoot different angles of the clouds.

Another wild day in Idaho.
