Great Grey owls - five of them.

Yesterday I hit the jackpot - I observed five of them.  I flushed on out of some scattered pines.

Two others soon joined it.

They were working an area with scattered pines and aspen

I was finally able to sneak up behind several pines to get about 30 feet away from this one and get this shot through the trees.

It finally flew off with the other two.

As I was coming out of the mountains, I found a pair of them hunting the CRP ground about four miles from the other owls.  The light was bad but I was able to get this shot after it harvested a rodent.

Its mate continued to fly over me as it hunted the same area.

By the way, I spent today looking for the five and I found all five of them again.

What a great way to end another wild day in Idaho.

Wow! Those are fantastic birds to see. I've only seen them once near Donnelly, Idaho last year. Missed them for my Idaho list this year. You seem to have good luck finding the specialty owls!

What beautiful photos of the owls! I love owls and used to see them occasionally when we had our property up in the mountains. Once in a while, one comes and stays in our cottonwood tree for a few days here in the desert. We can hear it at night, hooting. But, your photos are exceptional!

Fantastic, as always, Bill!

Wonderful photos Bill! I'm always green with envy when other Bloggers see and get owl photos, something that eludes me except for a burrowing owl last year. Really great you could get so close for some decent shots.

Great photo captures, Bill. I think I'd be into birds more if I could take pics halfway as decent as yours.

Thank you for your message about these and oh my, you must know how envious I am. My number one favorite life bird to view up close and personal along with a Great Snowy! So how far out west must one come to possible view any? Next year, I am so hoping to get closer than this year and maybe get to meet you in person. Just stunning images Bill, just awe-inspiring for me~

I'm surprised at so many. They are very rare this far south although occasionally seen in the North Country when they come down from Manitoba.

Bill look what I might have missed if I had not thought about you tonight and what you were taking photos of now.
These pictures are incredible and you have a gift within for taking such grand works of art. I love coming by here. Will have to catch up on your other posts while I am lucky enough to be here.
I have not been able to return to work yet since my accident so I am considering taking creative writing classes. My thoughts are to do it on line. Any suggestions for me and the class I should start with. Appreciate your thoughts of this
Thanks
