Henrys Fork

In a freezing rain I braved the roads to look for a few birds before I went with family to watch the "Nutcracker."  I did find a few birds braving the elements.  Geese, ducks, Trumpeter swan were all on the river with some of the Henrys Fork frozen over.  This swan had a blue neck collar.

My favorite sighting was a flock of about 100 Cedar waxwings with about 30 robins and starlings mixed in.

The "Nutcracker" was excellent.  I had several student in it as dancers and I loved trading some wildness for an afternoon watching it with two four-year old granddaughters.

I always enjoy the Nutcracker. When my daughter was little she called it the Crack Nutter. Are your four year old granddaugthers twins?

Would that be CLARK'S nutcracker? No? Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway ;-) I haven't seen it in years.

I love the swans and waxwings photos, but you and your two granddaughters? Priceless! ;o) Hubby and I last saw The Nutcracker at the Jackie Gleason theater in Miami, FL. It was awesome to be there; as a little girl I watched my dad watch Gleason on the b&w tv.

Beautiful pictures of the waxwings and swans... They MUST be horribly cold... Poor things!

Glad you got to see "The Nutcracker"... That's a Christmas tradition --especially if you have granddaughters...

Have a great week and Merry Christmas, Bill.

My two 4-year olds are not twins, but are daughters of my two youngest daughters. Each of them have a two-year old son also - not old enough for the "Nutcracker."

Watching the "Nutcracker" with grandchildren, what a great treat~ Those Cedar Wax Wings, all I can say is beautiful and lucky you for getting to view so many~

Thank you for all your recent wonderful posts and photos, Bill. Cedar waxwings are lovely birds, but very noisy in large numbers! They descend in large flocks on holly trees here in Florida during any season except summer. What a great day you had to enjoy wild beauty and the Nutcracker Ballet all in one day--very cool!

Hi Seemed you had a wonderful time with the grandkids.

What's wrong with this Swan? Is it labled for studies? Or did it get something around it's neck that is junk people trew away?

I feel sorry for it anyways.
Happy days to you.
And many thanks for you latest comment.

Nice to see some open water. Big Hole is totally froze up after our -20+ spell. Maybe our waterfowl headed over your way?
