After two days of inservice meetings and the first day of school, I needed some individual space. To my flower and veggie garden I went this evening. One of my favorite fall flowers is the hollyhock and I have many colors and variations of them. One thing I love about them is the perfect star created in the middle of the flower. My favorite color is the light pink or the salmon color. Enjoy these photos from my garden.
The bees and hummingbirds are visiting them. On the one below, I love the veins that run through the petals.
Here is a very dark one - some almost are a black.

What a wonderful variety Bill. I think too often these simple flowers go unnoticed. Love the hummingbirds too.
Bill: The Hollyhocks are such a big and showy flower. Your varities are wonderful.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog. I'm so glad you did because I. LOVE. HOLLYHOCKS! I have had a lot of problems with them because buying them at nurseries here is a crap shoot. I don't like the double ones as well as the single ones, and most here are doubles. And when I find a rare single one, there is no way to tell the color. I love all yours, and the pale pink are my favorites, too!
Very pretty flower; I like the star center too. I look forward to seeing my dad's flower garden in a couple weeks on the NW coast. :o)
I came by looking for your Skywatch post, which I can't find. But never mind - your hollyhocks are gorgeous. And I can quite understand needing some space at this time of year when everything starts up again.
Beautiful flower. I love your capture of the star shape in the middle and the bee in the last one.
I have a couple of hollyhocks I planted from seed this spring, I hope they flower next year. Thanks for the visit! Tomorrow will be the end of the first full week of school here....your hollyhocks are gorgeous and I know how much therapy there is in the beauty of the garden..enjoy!
Love your hollyhawks, Bill. I admire anyone who teaches these days. I used to teach (in the 60's-70's) high school, but don't think I could do it these days. Life has changed SO much.
Good Luck.
Betsy
Love the hollyhocks. We planted seeds this year, but think it is going to be next year before we get blooms.
