Range Fire

Awesome sights are created by impurities in the air.  Yesterday a range fire started west of Idaho Falls about 2:30 with winds whipping up about 40 to 50 mph.  Here are some of the images I took.

Here the plumb of smoke frames the Teton Peaks. This picture is looking southeast.

Here I took a picture of the St. Anthony Sand Dunes.  Everything was colored an eery orange or brown depending the thickness of the smoke.

Here the sun tries to shine through the smoke.

Here the sun filters through the smoke as the trees are still being whipped by 30 mph winds.  This morning the winds had calmed to 5 to 10 mph with the fire still burning.

A beautiful but a destructive way to end another wild day in Idaho.

Well now. This post has some food for thought about the nature of beauty. Taken by themselves without your explanation, the photos are incredibly beautiful. But...

Back in Oregon, we used to see the effects of on-purpose field burning every summer(grass seed farmers). Created beautiful sunsets, but horrible environmental effects and allergies. Recently, laws have improved the situation quite a bit but not completely yet.

Incredible effects produced by the wind blown smoke etc. but what damage to the environment and the wildlife?

Fire does create great sunsets through the smoke. Wondering if this is human or nature caused. Hope the winds stay down.

Great images though very destructive, but nature will find a way of redressing the balance.

What beautiful images of a very sad event that does take place. In the end so much shall be healthier and stronger after the fires, yet so much loss as well. The images are stunning though~

Very interesting.

I was in British Columbia last summer and there were a great many fires. I remember the smoke created some fabulous sunsets

What a pity, me tightens my heart when a forest burns

Your picture are different than the normal but they still reveal our world - good job.
May the winds die down and the rains come.

Though fires are destructive, the smoky air does creat beautiful sunsets.
