Sky Watch Friday - Centennial Mountains

On the border between the Big Sky valleys of southwestern Montana and the Island Park area of Idaho, lies a beautiful mountian range called the Centennials.  Here the Sunday snowstorm just begins to build up.  Now they are almost totally covered with from two to three feet of snow.  I will post pictures of the Centennials after I get back from my final two days of "roughing" it.

This is the view of Mount Jefferson from the southwest side.  It is a popular place for hiking in the summer.  This mountain range hosts the Continental Divide Trail that mostly follows the summit of these mountains.

Before it snows in the valleys around these mountain, the air has to saturate with moisture.  Then after the storm passes, the valleys are usually fog filled with the higher peaks rising above the mist.
Just another wild day in Idaho.

No! Not snow, yet! It's too early!

Love the mountains, though.

I'm not ready for snow yet either, but the mountains are beautiful! And as long as the snow is somewhere else I can really enjoy it! But I remember that I did enjoy it when I lived in Montana! These are great shots of the mountains!

Have a great weekend!

You hit home a lot closer to me than you would have thought with these photos. This is my Grandmother's old stomping ground and a place she really admired. Lovely shots, and thanks for reminding me of this beautiful place.

These mountains are gorgeous with there snow capped peaks. Try not to get buried out there and good luck with the hunt in the wilds.

Your posts always make me want to grab a bag of cookies, a thermos of coffee and start driving east. I know in eight to ten hours I could be there. Then there is that work thing...where others expect you to show up. D'OH!
On of these days you might find a Grayquill in the backgound of one of your pictures - It could happen.
