Here a female Great-horned owl protects her eggs as the night snow covers everything.
Common mergansers fly along the shore of Mud Lake.
A Western Meadowlark tries to bring some warmth to the cold day by singing.
A Red-breasted Merganser hunts for fish for lunch.
Meanwhile nearby a Hooded Merganser also hunts for lunch.
A flock of snowgeese join others on Mud Lake.
And in a evening snowstorm, a pair Sandhill cranes walk down the dike near Mud Lake.
A great way to spend spring break in Idaho.

Great set of photo's Bill, love the Owl. Meadowlark and the Hooded Merganser. Hope the bikinis arrive soon or they will miss the spring migration.
OH MY SNOW...STILL, Oh My~ That pair of Sandhill Cranes are absolutely gorgeous!!! Have a great weekend!
Outstanding as always! The conflict of interest between winter and spring always seems to make for some good photo ops.
What wonderful shots! Great!
Does look beautiful but not exactly bikini weather. Have to come down here for that.
Well...you know at Spring break time here in Florida you could definitely find the bikinis if you went to the beach ...., but really I don't think you'd want to trade ;>)...
beautiful beautiful pictures.
Good stuff Bill!
Hello Bill,Maybe not many, but definitely some interesting birds!
Wonderful selection Bill. Some people think the 'bikini' weather has arrived over here ... but it won't last long.
Gosh I have missed your beautiful photo's and reading your post.
Hard to believe the pictures of the snow in April. It is so hot here today I had to turn the AC on.
Your comment on my post brought a laugh which is something I have needed for a while.
The only thing in my past that might be catching up with me is playing football with my four brothers when they did not have enough friends to have a game. lol
Keep writing and taking such great photo's.

Great photos of the birds in the snow. I love the color of the meadowlark against white, and the sandhill cranes seem to be walking swiftly to stay warm!
The owl peeking over snowy branches is a wonderful capture.
The picture of the sandhill cranes should be mounted & hung in your home!I love the owl peaking out too, great photos, phyllis
I really like the "Snowy-Sand Hill Cranes". Great photo!

We've got meadowlarks nesting behind the house this year--nothing like their song to lift my spirits.
