Fishing and birding in Island Park

I have posted a fishing report on http://www.billschiessfishing.blogspot.com/ for this week so far.  But on Monday after fishing I worked my way down through Island Park looking for birds.  Had a great time.

I found some beautiful Yellow Warblers and here are a couple of pictures of them.  Here it is flying out to pick off an insect.

And here one is warbling its head off.

Here is a tern, not sure which one, but I think it is a Caspian tern, looking for fish on the Henrys Fork.

As I came off the water from fishing on Henrys Lake, I was greeted by this Black-crowned Night Heron.

I also found this Mountain Bluebird on the shore of the Henrys Fork.

Catching my share of fish and then finding some great birds, what a great day to spend in the wilds of Idaho.

Oh my gosh! Those are so wonderful. It's always good to see a new post from you, but especially when it is of your birds. I thought the warbler one was perfection but then the bluebird one is a strong rival! Each picture is exquisite though -- those two just happen to be favorite birds of mine. Thanks

I agree with everyone: great shots!

I'm pretty sure you're right re: Caspian. Used to try to ID them in San Diego and their large size and very reddish bill is a pretty good indicator. I also think Cornell agrees with you: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Caspian_Tern/id

=) WONderful pictures and SO nice to see birds so clearly you get the texture.

Summers at our family's camp on Lake Champlain, NY were full of early morning birdsong. The essence of a summer morning is waking up to the "sweet, sweet, sweet, I'm so sweet" of the resident yellow warblers. Gorgeous photo.

Super nice photos of the yellow warbler, and the tern and night heron! All three I've seen last year but didn't get good photos of. Sounds like it was another swell day in ID. :o) I may be passing thru there soon, haven't decided yet whether to go thru Yellowstone or not on my way to visit family in No Calif.

I saw a black-crowned night heron fly away from our pond several months ago. Then a month or so after that, I kept hearing this strange sound at our pond... got my bird book after I could see a brownish bird in a tree. Narrowed it down to a juvenile black-crowned night heron! Heard one again the other day over at the pond, but not sure where he was at, or if it was a juvenile or adult?

They do make quite the most interesting call.

Beautiful pics of the warblers, Bill... we have several warbler species around here too. I haven't identified them yet!

Any way I can use the picture of the yellow warbler in flight for an autobahn society of greater Denver poster that will be on perminant display?
